Strong earthquake raises fears of tsunami


Buildings were evacuated in the Cayman Islands as a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 triggered fears of a tsunami in the British Overseas territory, Cuba and Jamaica.

The USGS reported that the quake occurred at 14.10 pm (local time) at a depth of 10 kilometers (km).

It said the epicentre was located latitude / longitude: 19.315°N / 78.814°W of the Cayman Islands.

Residents on the Cayman Islands said that buildings have been evacuated with one person telling the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) “my office complex evacuated”.
